INDIA REPORT FOR FEBRUARY 8 - MARCH 3, 2005

I met Allen and Kevin Hahn at Bush Airport Tuesday afternoon, and we got off on time at 4:00 p.m. We arrived in Amsterdam at 8:00 a.m. on Wednesday. It was cold, windy, and raining. We spent most of the day in the hotel and went to bed around 10:00 p.m. I woke up at 3:00 a.m. and couldn't go back to sleep. We got up at 5:30, showered, ate breakfast, and went to the airport. Our bags were overweight and we had to pay $400.00 excess baggage! We left Amsterdam at 2:30 p.m. Thursday afternoon and arrived in Bombay at 3:00 a.m. on Friday. We got to the hotel around 5:30 a.m. and rested most of the day. On Saturday we got up at 4:30 a.m. Allen flew to Bangalore and Kevin and I flew to Hyderabad. We got off to a good start on Saturday evening with nine baptisms. On Sunday I preached at the leper church and Kevin preached at N. Victor's church. After lunch we headed out to Kurnool. We arrived about 6:00 p.m., checked into the hotel, and then headed out to preach. I preached in three different places and got back to the hotel at 10:30 p.m. Monday I got up at 4:45 a.m. to get ready to preach all day while Kevin taught the Bible class. We left around 6:00 and got back at 10:30 p.m. after preaching in six different villages that were a long way apart on terrible roads. Tuesday I taught Bible class and Kevin preached all day. We also went out and preached after the class, leaving about 4:30 p.m. Tuesday night I got back to the hotel at 11:30 p.m. and was back up at 5:00 a.m. to go preach all day once again. By the end of the week we had baptized 917 souls into Christ. Bible class attendance was over 300. We went back to Hyderabad on Friday. On Saturday (the 19th) I went to Chennai and Kevin went to Bangalore where he met Allen, and they worked there this week. When I got to Chennai Paul Reid was there and immediately began teaching the Bible class and went out preaching. At his first meeting Paul had four baptisms. He taught the Bible class and preached while I spent my time with the tsunami relief. Dean Crutchfield came and helped. The $63,000.00 was exchanged for 2,700,000 rupees. We rented four trucks to haul the supplies each day and passed out 2,200 bags which contained things like 11 pounds of rice, 2 pounds of dhal, spices, chili powder, soap, tooth paste and brush, a loongi and a saree, candle, matches, coffee, tea, and coconut oil. The government is helping to rebuild houses and buy fishing boats and nets. The Hindus and Muslims are not doing anything to help their people so, obviously, the people were very impressed with the outpouring of Christian compassion. They were very appreciative of the help that we gave them. Some of the brethren will be going back to various villages to conduct gospel meetings. Both Paul and I had some difficulties getting home thanks to the airlines. But, thanks to the Lord, we did get home! By the end of the week the grand total from all of us working together was 992 baptisms into Christ. As usual the special contribution went for Bibles, the children's homes, bicycles and lanterns, and many medical needs and other requests. All of this was made possible by your generosity in sending Paul and me and providing funds to do the Lord's work. To God be the glory!

We have wound it up here in India. Paul left today and should be in the air somewhere. Because of the tsunami work we only baptized 40 here in Chennai (Madras). Wouldn't it be great to be able to say that we had "only" baptized 40 in a week at JV?

Attached are a few more pics.

Hope to see you soon.

02/12/05 Hyderabad

...There were 9 baptisms at my first meeting. After services this morning we
will be heading to Kurnool. Each of us will have two meetings there tonight.
Unfortunately, I have a first class sinus infection, but it seems to be on the mend.
With all the teaching and preaching I have to do the next two weeks I certainly hope
so! Hope things go well at JV this Lord's Day.

Brotherly,

Dale

02/11/05 Mumbai, India

We arrived in Bombay this morning at 3:00 a.m., went through immigration, to the bank, reconfirmed our flights, and got to the hotel at 5:00 a.m. We take off early in the morning for our first assignments...

I hope to be able to send you some photos from Chennai. I don't think I'll be able to send any from Kurnool although I should be able to email from a cyber cafe.

BY THE TIME YOU ARE READING THIS Allen, Kevin, and I should be well on our way to India (that is, if you are reading the e-bulletin; if it is Sunday we are there and into our work). Paul will be joining me in Chennai the week following. The contribution for the tsunami victims came to $63, 041.49 with contributions coming from nineteen different congregations and individuals who live elsewhere. On top of that was the “regular” special contribution for India which amounted to $8,053.87. Hopefully, I will be able to administer these two funds without any confusion. Many people will be helped because you and others cared enough to give. I am looking forward to letting them know that this is what Christian love is all about. Derek Lamberth has information on the web page about the trip. I hope to be able to send him information along the way via email to keep everyone updated as to what is going on. That may or may not happen, depending on whether I have the time (and internet connection) to do it. We appreciated so much the special prayer by the elders for Paul and me and ask that you continue to pray for us until the Lord brings us safely back home. May God continue to bless you all.
